Naviskauto 12.5 MP4 playback issue

About 6 weeks ago. I started playing some of my converted files on a usb stick from my mac. All play well for a period of time until the sound and video go out of sync. Eventually the video slows to one frame per second. The unit charged and it happens only to my converted MP4 files. DVDs play fine. The description of the item said plays mp4s which is one major reason I bought this. I tried looking on the unit with the remote for sound and video settings and tried a few different things but nothing really makes a difference. If there is a problem with the MP4 format is there a better format I should be using to watch my converted videos?I have a large library of MP4 and if possible would like to keep that format. I typically will watch these either on the computer I converted from or sync them to my iPad Air. Thanks for any advice
